Apply and monitor mine transport systems and production equipment
This course provides experienced mining personnel with the skills and knowledge required to apply, monitor, and manage mine transport systems and production equipment to ensure safe, effective, and compliant operations within a mining environment.
The unit is intended for experienced operators, supervisors, and technical personnel who are responsible for overseeing haulage systems, production equipment, and associated processes, and for ensuring that systems operate in accordance with site procedures, production requirements, and legislative obligations.
The course focuses on monitoring equipment performance, identifying hazards and inefficiencies, implementing control measures, and contributing to continuous improvement of mine transport and production systems.

- The learner’s prior operational and supervisory experience in underground mining
- The learner’s commitment to completing learning activities, assessments, and forums
- Access to appropriate workplace tasks, equipment, and ventilation systems
- Availability of a workplace mentor or supervisor to support application of skills on site
Course Breakdown
The unit includes various learning sections and assessment requirements, which are as follows:
- Mine transport systems and production equipment, and maintenance and operational requirements for free-steered vehicle systems, rail transport systems, shaft and drift winding systems and conveyor systems.
- Installation, commissioning, maintenance and operational requirements for mine transport systems and production equipment.
- Plan and prepare for the operation of transport systems and production equipment.
- Plan and prepare for the maintenance of transport systems and production equipment.
- Assist or under deputy’s supervision participate in installation / commissioning of transport systems / production equipment.
- Assist or under deputy’s supervision participate in the review and modification of a work process relating to transport systems or production equipment.
- Participate in an audit of a site transport system or production equipment with an appropriate worker / work group.
- Schedule and participate in an inspection of a site transport system or production equipment with an appropriate worker/s.
