Course Details – Mynesight Training

Apply and monitor underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems

This self-paced course provides experienced resources and infrastructure personnel with the skills and knowledge required to apply, monitor, and contribute to the effectiveness of an emergency management plan in a high-risk operational environment, including mining and heavy industry workplaces.

The unit is intended for experienced operational personnel and supervisors who have responsibilities for identifying emergency hazards, implementing emergency controls, monitoring readiness, and supporting emergency preparedness, response, and review processes in accordance with site procedures and legislative requirements.

The course focuses on recognising emergency scenarios, applying trigger action response plans (TARPs), coordinating responses within the scope of the emergency management plan, and contributing to post-incident review and continuous improvement.

Course Duration

The course duration is estimated to be between 8 - 12 weeks.
Course duration may be impacted by various factors such as:

The learner’s prior operational and supervisory experience in underground mining
The learner’s commitment to completing learning activities, assessments, and forums
Access to appropriate workplace tasks, equipment, and ventilation systems
Availability of a workplace mentor or supervisor to support application of skills on site

Course Breakdown

Learners will be required to review a unit Study Guide and supplementary references and complete a series of theory questions (short answer), research assignments and site-based activities.

The unit includes various learning sections and assessment requirements, which are as follows:

Legislative, organisational and site management requirements relating to underground coal emergency preparedness and response systems.
The effects of unstable mining, strata monitoring, inspection and emergency evacuation requirements.

The practical assessment requirements for this unit includes:

Access, interpret and apply your site’s emergency preparedness and response systems documentation.
Identify the potential hazards / risks requiring emergency preparedness and response.
Identify the resources required to apply your site’s emergency preparedness and response requirements.
Provide details of the mock emergency you participated in.
Identify, locate, obtain and apply emergency equipment.
Coordinate and control response to incident within scope of your role.
Participate in debrief and review of mock emergency.
Conduct or participate in an audit / review of the emergency management plan or related procedures.
Provide details of an inspection you carried out on emergency preparedness and response equipment / devices.

Delivery and Assessment

The delivery method for the units of competency is online and self-paced, with support provided through online training resources and trainer check-ins.
This allows learners to work through the course material at their own pace and convenience, while also receiving guidance and support from qualified trainers.
The online format also enables learners to access the course material from anywhere with an internet connection, providing flexibility and convenience.

Issuance of Statements of Attainment (SOAs) and the Certificate IV Qualification

Learners will be issued with an SOAs on successful completion of the unit of competency.

This unit forms part of RII40420 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations. Learners who can complete this course can use it towards the completion of Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations
